Saturday construction: Construction work takes place on Saturdays.  We usually work from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but other times are available for specific projects/volunteers.  Construction Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age, able-bodied, and willing to perform a wide variety of construction-related tasks.  New volunteers are asked to complete the on-line volunteer registration and orientation.  If you do not wish to complete this registration/orientation on-line, please contact the Volunteer Department to be added to our database.  Building locations and specific information can be found on our construction calendar, updated weekly.  In order to access this calendar you must complete the volunteer registration online and sign-in with the provided password. See construction description for information.  Previous construction experience is not required.

Construction warehouse: Volunteers are needed Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m and Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to assist with pre-building, warehouse organization and vehicle/tool maintenance.  We are building a regular team of warehouse support.  Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age or older and previous construction experience is not required.  For more information or to sign up, contact (334) 79BUILD (793-8453) or Email Us.

Construction Crew Members: If you are able to commit to a specific amount of construction time per month, you can become a regular member of our Construction Crew.  This group eventually becomes trained in the specific and various aspects of building Habitat homes, to the point of serving as an “assistant” to the construction supervisor.  These volunteers are often asked to train and oversee smaller groups of unexperienced volunteers and to perform certain construction tasks unsupervised. Crew members are the heart and sole of our volunteer force as they are often our most dedicated and skilled volunteers.

Renovation Station: Volunteers are needed Monday through Saturday, shift times are flexible.  The store offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities, from loading/unloading merchandise, performing inventory, helping customers and pricing merchandise. Customer service and retail experience is helpful, but not mandatory.

Administrative assistance: Office assistance is needed for our main office.  Volunteers here serve a direct support role, allowing the WHFH staff to better serve our partner families and the community at large.  Tasks include cleaning, sorting, stuff/folding mailers, running errands, answering phones, etc…  These may sound like simple tasks, but the amount of support that you can offer in doing these things is a huge help and inspiration to others!  Office volunteer shifts and times are flexible, available Monday through Friday.  Data entry experience helpful, but not mandatory.

Other areas of need / committee volunteers: Since WHFH is a volunteer driven organization, we have a tremendous need for volunteers outside of construction.  See our non-construction link for specific information regarding these needs.
